Simple plush head tutorial by Luminous-Luchador Simple plush head tutorial by Luminous-Luchador
So here's a pretty simple head tutorial if you're interested in how I make simple heads for my plushies. It's rather short, becuase there's not much to say :D (Since I use the trial-and-error method)
But I think it's a good method, and I got to show you a nice little trick which I'm probably going to use more often in the future. I was rather impressed, that the dummy acutally turned out how it should at the first try :'D
I wanted to make it short, and I think you can guess why I made the pattern the way I did, but I'll be happy to answer any questions or change the tutorial if anythings unclear! :)

Oh, and next time, please remind me to fully stuff the dummy and make proper photos :'D

Love all your work! Just wondering, how would you alter this if you wanted to make a more square snout? Thank you!

Thank you~

A more square snout? Can you give me an example for what you would want to make? So that I exactly understand how square-y it should be and how it should look like :)
I'm not sure right now

Thanks for making this. Alot people don't bother to explain the process of making plushies with round heads. This is closest I came to making anything that was round. I do have a couple a questions.

Am I use supposed to use the almond shape as a guide for the pattern height? Does the basic shape of the come from the almond shape or the circle you draw in the sketch? The turtles have slight rise in their beak.  What the best way to keep the "nose" from being to pointy?

I made a test head, and it came out odd. The nose was too long, and face came out too narrow. The sides look like the way the front should. The front lost its oval shape. Would making the head front wider help the pattern to keep its shape?

Once again thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. Even though the head did not come the way I wanted, I feel that I can get it right eventually.

no problem :)
I'll try to help you as good as I can!

1) yes :)

2) I'm not 100% sure what you mean to be honest, but the circle's completely unimportant for the process of drawing the basic shape. The only use for that is when altering the basic shape..and probably almond shape isn't the right word..it's a digon (I just realized - I seriously didn't know that almonds only have one pointy end, sorry!)

3) as long as you have curves and soft edges it won't be too pointy. but if it's still too much the angle between the bridge of the nose and the jaw is too narrow (difficult to describe o_o")

how about you send me a pic of your pattern? I can give you my mail if you want :)
That way it'll be easier to help you because I can properly see where you have troubles :D
The only thing I can say for sure is that if your head is to narrow like this () and should look like this O, the basic shape is too slim, so if you make it broader, it gets better! Just take a look at my flareon pattern for example and you'll see immediately if the pattern's to slim or not ;)
And if the sides look the way the front should, then you already have your front pattern! Or at least you know what it should look like..
Shortening the nose isn't too difficult either. You can make it shorter, but then you have to watch out that it doesn't look too much like this:

because then it'll be a rather flat face...

I hope I replied to everything, and if you're seriously stuck you're always welcome to send me you pattern for proper advice, like I said ;)
